Part-Time Administrative Manager/Assistant

Who We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for an Administrative Manager/Assistant to complete projects that are anticipated to require approximately 8-16 hours per week. The work will include the following:

  • Managing company office hours, receiving phone calls, scheduling meetings, and managing daily calendars.
  • Handling financial matters such as expense reports and light bookkeeping entries in quickbooks.
  • Coordinating work with other support personnel such as legal and accounting teams on agreements, and other deliverables.
  • Completing entries for various web-based platforms on the behalf of the core team and company, to include social-media platforms and website.

Additional Information:

  • Appointment is initially for a 6-month period, with longer-term extension based on business need.
  • Appointment is Hybrid, with some physical presence at office location required.

Need to Have:

  • Excellent communication skills throughout mediums including telephone, email, and chat software.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Office, Teams, and Outlook, as well as Zoom and Webex. Individual will be expected to maintain company accounts.

Senior Polymer Analytical Chemist – R&D

Location: Denver Metropolitan Area, Aurora, CO

Your Role

We’re seeking a motivated Senior Polymer Analytical Chemist to drive physical characterization and chemical analysis of PHA polymers and additives. You will help set the standards, build our analytical and polymer lab SOPs, and ensure the quality and reliability of our materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Characterize PHA polymers’ molecular footprint and core properties.
  • Develop, validate, and implement analytical protocols (composition & structure, MW/MWD, Tg, Tm, materials and film (forming) properties, dispersions.
  • Establish and maintain SOPs for research, development, and quality assurance.
  • Apply microscopy and advanced instrumentation to assess polymer films, coatings, and substrates.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with R&D, business, and external partners.

What You Bring

  • Education: Master’s (PhD preferred) in Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in polymer/analytical chemistry, including work with polyolefins, polyesters, or thermosets.
  • Recent PhD may be considered with appropriate graduate school experience in place of industrial work experience.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on expertise operating and maintaining FTIR, GC, GPC, polymer thermal analysis, microscopy and related instruments.
  • Experience with the use of polymer compounding in laboratory setting – melt mixing, reactive extrusion, fiber and film extrusion and molding.
  • Nice-to-Have: Industrial or academic experience with bio-based polymers (PLA, PBS, PHA, TPS), adhesives, dispersions, or coatings. Experience with NMR.
  • Personal Traits: Self-motivated, collaborative, strong communicator (oral and written) across scientific and business audiences. Ability to work with minimal supervision.  Problem solving ability.  Time management skills.
  • Computational Skills: Proficiency in design of experiments, data analysis and interpretation.

Fermentation & DSP Research Technician

We are looking for an experienced Fermentation & DSP Research Technician to join our team in Aurora, CO. If you have a strong background in microbial fermentation and product recovery — and are ready to make an impact from day one — we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate and optimize lab- and pilot-scale fermentations (aerobic/anaerobic).
  • Perform downstream recovery and purification (centrifugation, filtration, extraction, chromatography).
  • Monitor and analyze fermentation performance using assays (HPLC, GC, spectrophotometry).
  • Maintain microbial cultures, media prep, and aseptic techniques.
  • Document results, follow SOPs, and support process troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers to scale processes from bench to pilot.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with fermentation and downstream processing.
  • Strong understanding of bioprocess operations, aseptic techniques, and lab safety.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, work independently, and deliver results quickly.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Gas fermentation experience (CO₂, syngas, methane, hydrogen).
  • Experience with scale-up from benchtop to pilot or industrial scale.
  • Familiarity with bioprocess control systems (e.g., Sartorius, Applikon, DeltaV).
  • Knowledge of advanced DSP (membrane separations, crystallization, solvent recovery).

Microbiology Research Technician

The company has a team of senior personnel and is seeking a motivated individual to act as a skilled and motivated Microbiology Research Technician to join our laboratory team working on genetic engineering of methanotrophic and carboxydotrophic bacteria. The successful candidate will provide critical support for our research efforts in manipulating these unique microorganisms for biotechnology applications. PHAXTEC has proprietary microbes which convert methane gas and other C1 carbon into polyhydroxyalkanoate, a 100% biodegradable thermoplastic that can replace fossil plastics in many applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Isolate, cultivate and maintain methanotrophic and carboxydotrophic bacterial strains under various growth conditions and in freezer stocks. Emphasis will be placed on legible labelers.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction, overlap and extension PCR, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction (Golden Gate Cloning, Gibson assembly, etc).
  • Assist in the development and optimization of genetic transformation protocols for target bacterial species.
  • Conduct genetic engineering experiments using techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 and homologous recombination.
  • Analyze engineered strains using genetic sequencing and common software for genome visualization.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and prepare technical reports on experimental procedures and results.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, centrifuges, thermocyclers and bioreactors.
  • Assist in the preparation of media, reagents, and solutions for experiments. Assist in root cause analysis for roots of contamination in cultures.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with other team members and present findings in lab meetings.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • US Citizen, permanent resident or permission to work in the US.
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques post-graduate.
  • Familiarity with anaerobic microbiology techniques and handling of fastidious microorganisms.
  • Experience with genetic engineering tools and techniques, particularly in non-model organisms.
  • Strong aseptic technique and ability to work with potentially pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and use of relevant software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R, MATLAB).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with methanotrophic or carboxydotrophic bacteria.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis and primer design.
  • Knowledge of metabolic engineering principles and synthetic biology approaches.

As part of its growth PHAXTEC is looking for a Polymer Compounding Technology R&D Engineer to join the team. 

What You’ll Do

The successful candidate manages and carries out experimental work on all aspects of compounding and related polymer applications of PHA biopolymers for PHAXTEC. Responsibilities include developing and executing hands on compounding and applications experience in compounding, extrusion, molding, and other processing of polymers, specially PHA, PLA, PBS, TPS or related polymers. You will contribute directly to the development and scaling of PHA biopolymer compounds and dispersions in conjunction with partners and customers.

The successful candidate would have 2-5 years’ of hands-on experience in the field and would develop and commercialize such products. Experience with having set up relevant laboratories managing technicians and engineers would be a plus.

What We’re Looking For

  • Masters in Polymer Science or Engineering or related field,
  • relevant and significant experience in polyolefins, polyesters and similar polymers, their compounds, and applications.
  • Bio-based polymer (PLA, PBS, PHA, TPS) and polymer adhesives, dispersions and/or coatings experience would be a plus.
  • Strong computational skills are desired.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills are required.
  • The person will be self-driven and expected to communicate with the R&D staff, non-scientists, and business leaders internally and externally.
